As well as giving regular solo recitals in the UK, France and the Channel
Islands, Christopher George plays in the Rosina Trio (clarinet, cello,
piano) and performs frequently with the French cellist Emmanuelle Dumas. He
also teaches at the Summer Music Academy in Pompignan, Southern France. Over
the past year he
has achieved considerable competition success, including First Prize in the
EYO Young Soloists Competition, First Prize in the
Worshipful Company of Musicians' Carnwath Scholarship, Third prize in the
Christopher Duke Memorial Award, reaching the semi-finals of the Bromsgrove
Competition and winning the
Guildhall Gold Medal.

This year the St James Sinfonia is delighted to welcome Kathryn
Workman, another fine Guernsey musician working in the UK, to play Strauss's
Oboe concerto, his last great work. David Le Page plays the second of
Beethoven's Romances and the concert ends with Beethoven's Symphony
No.1. The concert opens with a favourite overture, Mendelssohn's 'The
Hebrides', written after the composer's visit to Fingal's Cave during one of
his visits to
Britain. Once again the Sinfonia is conducted by Richard Dickins and the
orchestral players drawn from the many talented students past and present
who have graced the Guernsey music scene.

SUMMER ORCHESTRAL COURSE
The culmination of a week's hard work by the young musicians and their
coaches are the three concerts held at St James, at which every participant
enjoys an
opportunity to perform. These concerts are one of the highlights of
Guernsey's summer music and demonstrate just a few of the items upon which
the students have worked during the week. This year the course is welcoming
a new principal conductor, Nicholas Cleobury.
Tickets for all three concerts are available from Elizabeth College Hall

A welcome return by this incredible Russian pianist who enthralled the St
James audience back in July 2002. Since winning First Prize at the Moscow
International Rachmaninov Competition in 1997 (aged only 19) Valentina
Igoshina has given recitals in Russia, Poland, Holland, Hungary, Italy,
Germany, France, Spain and performed with world-renowned orchestras
including the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Cracow Philharmonic Orchestra
and Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra. In November 2000 Miss Igoshina made a
very successful début with the Hallé Orchestra which resulted in an
immediate re-invitation for the 2001/02 season. She has also recently made
successful debuts with the BBC Scotland Symphony Orchestra and in Australia
with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. In January 2002 she made a very
successful debut withthe London Philharmonic Orchestra and her recital debut
in London at the Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of the Harrods International
Piano Series. This year Valentina returns to the Hallé Orchestra and also
gives recitals in Milan, London and at the Tonhalle in Zurich.
