Guernsey won the men's, the women's, the men's U21 and the U17 Inter-Insulars at Beau Sejour in May 2023
The draw for the NatWest Island Games 2023 in Guernsey is:
Men Group A - Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Falkland Islands, Menorca Group B - Saaremaa, IOW, Ynys Mon, Faroe Islands
Women Group A - Guernsey, Isle of Man, Faroe Islands Group B - Menorca, Jersey, Cayman Islands

Guernsey won the men's, the women's and the U21 Inter-Insular matches, but lost the U17 men's match - see details on the Hoops Archive section
Guernsey played Oxford Brookes in the final at Leeds Metropolitan University on 12th April at 11am but lost narrowly 67 to 73.
In the Semi-final they played Sunderland University who finished top of the North League and won their quarter final 72 to 64 against Mansfield Giants. Guernsey won.
The men's team finished 2nd in the South League and then beat the winner of the South & East league (Medway Park Crusaders) by 63 to 56.
The men's and women's teams are to play in a national basketball competition again next season (2013-14) - in the Founder's Cup. It is a regional tournament but one step down from the National League which they both entered a few years ago. The advantage off this competition is that there only 10 games and it may be possible to play as double-headers to cut down on travel. The top two teams from the four regions will then qualify for the knock-out quarter-finals. The men's event has been going for 62 years whilst the women's event is relatively new, this being the third year.
GUERNSEY want to be challenging for the silverware after entering the National Founders Cup. The Sarnian men's team have been drawn against Brighton Cougars, Sutton Storm and Winchester Knights in their regional pool of a competition designed to give non- National league teams and players the chance to perform on a national level. It is also a benchmark for teams wishing to become National league participants.
The standard is described as being as good as Division Four and even Three if you reach the later rounds, but the competition does not have the increased rules and regulations that comes with National league status, which can be expensive and prohibitive when you are travelling to the UK for away and 'home' games. Guernsey, who expect to start their campaign in either late October or early November, will be playing double-header weekends with their 'home' fixtures set to be played out of St Mary's in Southampton, although they remain hopeful of encouraging teams to travel to the island.
Coach Adam Farish reported this week that his squad had been training hard throughout the summer and fitness will not be an issue in coping with two games in as many days. 'We are really excited. Everyone involved is just really happy to have this opportunity after the disappointment of the Island Games,' Farish said. Once the round-robin games are completed, there is a knockout round followed by a quarter and semi-final, culminating in National Finals Day when all England Basketball finals are played over one weekend - usually in one of the big UK stadiums such as Nottingham or Manchester.
'As far as expectations go, it is hard to judge. We know Brighton have got a good set-up down there and we know a few guys who play in the teams we will be up against, but we have nothing to be scared of. 'We have probably the strongest squad we have ever had right now with the 12 who hammered Jersey in the inter-insular plus another four or five guys on top of that who would be interchangeable.
'We will probably travel with 12 and look to get two games in over a weekend, but I doubt that we will take the same 12 over every weekend. 'We want to go in to win it, obviously, but part of this opportunity is about getting our players exposure to a different competition.' Guernsey had entered a women's team, but unfortunately there were insufficient teams to form a competition. GBA president and island women's coach Pat Ogier admitted that it was 'obviously disappointing' that was the case, but added: 'We are now looking at alternatives to ensure the women have the necessary fixtures to continue preparation and development for the 2015 Games.'
The inter-insular in 2014 is in Jersey on Sat 26th April
The Inter-Insular in Guernsey last year 2013 resulted in a 3-1 win to Guernsey. The U17, Women and Men all won but the U21 lost. Details on the Inter-Insular page.
Before the men's match there was a minute's silence for founder members of the GBA and a stalwart and passionate devotee of the sport, Terry Le Huray. He passed away on 4th August 2012. He had, until a few years ago, always put a side in the leagues, had acted as secretary, island coach, and referee, and been an ever present first at the old Boys Grammar school and St Peter Port school before Beau Sejour became the home of basketball. His efforts were rewarded when he was entered in the basketball Hall of Fame and honoured for his Services to Basketball. He was instrumental in the success of the Island Games in 2003 when his attention to detail ensured that we had a venue to play in, the logistics of transporting the two floors from the UK, and the overall organisation of the event. We shall all be ever grateful for such a dedicated and principled person who loved the game and put so much time and effort in bringing through a host of young players over the years into the sport.
The new website from the 2005-06 season is now at www.guernseybasketball.com although not kept up to date.
