SHARING TAX INFORMATION

A major report released next year will go a long way in helping Guernsey ditch any reputation it has as a dodgy tax haven. Donel Godfrey is the head the Harmful Tax Practice Unit, at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. He spoke to members of our finance sector last night on the importance of sharing tax information. But he says they already view Guernsey as a jurisdiction that's leading the way. Every year the OECD produces an assesment report looking at what countries are playing ball and which aren't. He says next year they're changing the way they present their findings and Guernsey's reputation will benefit from that.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SAYS TO STATES - CURB YOUR SPENDING

Pressure's mounting on the States to make sure their spending's under control. The Chamber of Commerce is the latest group to urge our government to find ways of getting better value for money. They're trying to set an example with the latest increase in their members' fees. They're going up by 2.9%, which is less than RPI.

EARLY HOURS ASSAULT

A woman walking home alone in the early hours of Sunday morning was subjected to a sustained attack. At around 2.25 a.m., the woman who was talking on her mobile phone, was attacked by a male unknown to her. As a result she suffered serious injuries necessitating hospital treatment as well as being distressed by the incident. The attack which occured on Braye Road, ceased when a passing taxi disturbed the offender who ran off taking the woman's phone with him. A local man has since been arrested by investigators and charged with causing grievous bodily harm. DI Ashley Nicholas assures islanders the incident is an isolated one and not a common crime within the Bailiwick.

SARAH P. TOWED

The lifeboat 'Spirit Of Guernsey' was called out in the early hours of this morning. Local fishing boat, Sarah P got caught one mile south of St Martins Point after her propellor got entangled in a large piece of stray fishing net. Unable to remove the netting and with no other vessel in the vicinity, it was decided to send out the lifeboat to tow the craft back to St Peter Port.

PRINCE CHARLES THANKS ISLANDERS

The Prince of Wales is thanking islanders for his birthday wishes. The Lieutenant Governor Sir Fabian Malbon wished his royal highness many happy returns on behalf of everyone in the Bailiwick. Prince Charles has written back saying he's very grateful for the kind thought and sentiments and sends his very best wishes to the people of Guernsey.

DE PUTRON CHALLENGE

And five teams from local schools will go head to head tonight in this year's De Putron Challenge. The Grammar School, Elizabeth College, Ladies, Blanchelande and the College of FE will be taking part in the competition, which is cross between University Challenge and Mastermind. They'll face questions on a number of topics as well as their chosen specialist subjects. Those range from Capitals of the World to Lost: Series 1. Elizabeth College will be looking to protect their title as the reigning champions. Tonight's quizmaster Island FM's very own Rob Moore says it won't be easy.
