THE
BEGINNING
THE LE PELLEY
SPEED TEAM WAS FORMED IN 1985 BY PAUL LE PELLEY, PAUL WAS
AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER AT THE GUERNSEY GROWERS
CO-OPRITIVE AND STARTED RACING IN 1984 IN A V8 POWERED
TRIUMPH SPITFIRE. WITH THE MIGHTY V8 AND A JAG AXLE
INSTALLED IT WAS A INTERESTING CONCEPT BUT IT WORKED WITH
GREAT RESULTS. HE INTRODUCED ME (TIM) AND MY DAD (DAVE)
TO RACING AND THE TEAM WAS FORMED. ALWAYS INTRIGUED BY
SPEED THE THREE OF US WERE TO BUILD THREE VERY SUCCESSFUL
CARS INDEED. PAUL WAS TO BUILD A V8 DUTTON PHAETON, DAD
WAS TO BUILD AN ALL STEEL FORD POWERED 1600 DUTTON
PHAETON, AND TIM A 1293 CC , LEYLAND POWERED MINI COOPER
'S'
PAUL SADLY WAS
LOST TO CANCER IN 1991.
RACING
YEARS 1986/1991
RACING IN 1986
WAS SHEERED BETWEEN
GUERNSEY AND JERSEY, ON THE HILLS AND THE SPRINTS
PRODUCING RECORDS FOR ALL THREE OF US IN BOTH ISLANDS AND
IN BOTH SPRINTS AND HILLS. IN 1987 PAUL STARTED TO RACE
IN ENGLAND WINNING ALL THE EVENTS HE ENTERED . THE MIGHTY
DUTTON WAS TO BE A HARD CAR TO BEET IN THE UK. PAUL RACED
RIGHT UP UNTIL 4 WEEKS BEFORE HIS DEATH GOING OUT WITH A
WIN AT HIS FAVORITE HILL GURSTON DOWN. AFTER PAUL'S DEATH
THE RENOWNED GURSTON DOWN END OF SEASON CHARITY FUND
RAISING BARBECUE, WHICH PAUL NEVER MIST WAS DEDICATED TO
PAUL AND THE
£1000
RAISED WENT TO THE CANCER RESEARCH
FUND.
RACING YEAR
1991
( PAUL LE PELLEY
1963/1991)
AFTER PAUL'S DEATH, ME AND DAD
CONTINUED RACING HEAR, AND IN JERSEY WITH GOOD RESULTS.
WITH THE ONLY RECORD THAT PAUL DID NOT HOLD IN THE
CHANNEL ISLANDS BEING THE GUERNSEY SPRINT AT VAZON COAST
ROAD,
TIM ENTERED THE DUTTON IN THE
GUERNSEY
SPRINT
IN JUNE 1991. THE
SPRINT RECORD STOOD AT 12.96 Sec AND TIM WANTED TO CLAIM
THE 20 YEAR OLD RECORD FOR PAUL. COMPETING IN THE HILL'S
IN ENGLAND PAUL WAS ONLY ABLE TO RUN ONE SPRINT IN
GUERNSEY AND THAT MEETING WAS WET. THE DAY OF THE RACE
WAS SUNNY AND THE RECORD WAS LOWERED BY ME ON THE LAST
RUN OF THE DAY WITH A 12.82 Sec RUN, AND A TOP SPEED OF
126 Mph. DAVE WON THE SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP THAT YEAR IN
HIS DUTTON AND TIM ALSO WON THE SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP IN
HIS MINI.
I CAN SAY WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT
AFTER RACING MY MINI FOR YEARS AND THEN JUMPING IN PAUL,S
CAR IT WAS AND STILL IS THE MOST EXCITING EXPERIENCE TO
DATE,THE AWESOME ROAR AND POWER OF A 300 HP V8 WILL BE
WITH ME FOREVER AS WILL THE MEMORIES OF MY BROTHER.
RACING YEARS
1992/1996
IN 1992 THE
G.K.M.C STARTED
RACING IN ALDERNEY WITH DAD SETTING THE RECORD IN HIS
CLASS AND TIM SECOND IN HIS. TIM CRASHED JUST BEFORE THE
LAST RUN AND BORROWED HIS DADS CAR FOR THE FINAL RUN
SETTING A UNOFFICIAL RECORD TO HIS AMAZEMENT ? AT THE
GUERNSEY HILLS DAD WAS TO WIN IN HIS DUTTON AND TIM WAS
TO COME SECOND DURING THE YEARS.
RACING YEARS
1997/1998
WITH A NEW ENGINE REBUILD AND
TYRES THE SEASONS IN 97 AND 98 WERE GOOD AND TOP 2
FINISHES WERE THE ORDER OF THE DAY,DAVE KEPT WINNING AND
WE BOTH CONTINUED TO HONE OUR SKILLS.
RACING YEARS
1999/2000
MY FRIEND JAMES HILL SHARES MY
MINI AND IS ENJOYING THE BUZZ THAT MOTOR SPORT GIVES YOU
MOTOR SPORT DOESN'T JUST GIVE YOU A FAST HOBBY BUT ALSO
INTRODUCES YOU TO NEW FRIENDS. JAMES WAS BUILDING A
ESCORT RS 1600 BUT DUE TO DELAYS WAS KEEN TO EXCEPT TIM'S
OFFER TO DRIVE THE MINI. HIS FIRST RUN HE GOT OUT AT THE
TOP AND HIS LEGS WERE LIKE JELLY, AND HIS FACE SAID IT
ALL. THE ADRENALINE RUSH YOU GET WHEN RACING HAD JUST
CONVERTED JIM INTO ANOTHER LONG TERM MEMBER OF THE ELITE
CLASS OF DRIVERS WHO ENJOY RACING IN
GUERNSEY.
RACING
2001/2002
IN THIS YEAR TIM
AND JIM BOUGHT A NEW CAR AND HAD AN INTERESTING YEAR, WE
STARTED OFF WITH GOOD TIMES TIM ON A 37.11 SEC RUN AND
JIM A 38.20 SEC RUN. NEXT MEETING JIM STARTED WITH A
38.45 AND TIM A 37.99 THEN , THE BOTTOM TIE ROD BROOK AND
THE RESULTING GRANITE RASH WAS TO BE EXPENSIVE. IT TOOK 3
WEEKS TO RETELL THE CAR AND A MAR £2000. THE CAR
ONLY DID 1 RUN AT THE NEXT HILL DUE TO THE RAIN WHICH
STARTED AT 8 AM AND FINISHED AT 6 PM (FUNNY THAT'S THE
TIMES WE RACE BETWEEN)Jim AND DAVE WERE TO RACE THE
DUTTON AT THE SPRINT BUT THE LEAKING BRAKE PIPE PUT AN
END TO THAT SO THEY WHEELED OUT THE MINI AND HAD A GOOD
SECOND PLACE WITH 15.25 ONLY FOR A NO 1 EX VALVE SPRING
TO GO AND THE VALVE HAD A CHAT WITH THE NO1 PISTON AND
DECIDED THE BEST WAY TO END THE DAY EARLY WAS TO SMASH
EACH OTHER TO BITS. WE ENDED THE YEAR OFFERING TO MARSHAL
THE SPRINT IN ALDERNEY AND DO THE START LINE AT THE
ALDERNEY HILL THIS WE FOUND VERY INTERESTING AND YOU GET
TO SPOT A FEW TRICKS WATCHING YOU OPPOSITION ON THE START
LINE. NEXT YEAR WILL SEE A RADICAL CHANGE IN THE TYPE OF
ENGINE FOR 2003.
RACING
2003
THE START OF THE
YEAR WE GOT HOLD OF A KAD 16V TWIN CAM ENGINE FOR THIS
YEAR. WHEN IT WAS READY WE DID THE 1ST HILL WITH TIM ON A
38.90 AND JIM A 38.50. THE ENGINE POWER AND TORQUE WAS
VERY DIFFERENT AND WOULD TAKE A WHILE TO MASTER. MAY 26TH
HILL TIM DID A 37.44 AND JIM A 38.12. SECOND HALF OF THE
YEAR AND WE SPRINTED THE CAR AND TO OUR SURPRISE IT WAS
SO QUICK FOR A STANDARD MOTOR A 15.80 SEC RUN ONLY .60 OF
A SEC DOWN AGAINST WORKS SHORT STROKES "NOT BAD". AT THE
NATIONAL THE 1ST 29.44 RUN WAS RECORDED. LATER IN THE
YEAR TIM MANAGED A BEST OF 37.12 AND JIM A TIME OF 37.43
WELL DONE JIMBO.ALDERNEY WAS GREAT, TIM,JIM AND MARK DID
TIMES OF 22.26/22.27 AND 22.28 NO JOKE!,MARK B TOOK THE
RECORD AND AT THE HILL TIM DID A 33.19 AND JIM A 32.82
NICE ONE.THE ENGINE IS IN FOR A REBUILD CRACK TEST AND
NEW CAMS ,COMPRESSION RAISED AND SETUP ON THE
DYNO.
RACING
2003/2004
Mini World
features the GMOC summer show
1st October
2003,The pictures
from this years Guernsey mini owners club summer show are
in mini world this month. Our car has a couple of
pictures which is a real surprise. We both enjoyed the
show, meeting and discussing information on various
subjects and it was very well organized by Gesy and Paul
Buckingham and Eric Trump, infact all involved. when we
are racing we always get asked about something just
before a run and have to dash, so it was nice to not rush
off and have a relaxed conversation with club members and
the public.
ENGINE GOES TO
KAD
9th October 2003,
Colin at KAD has
asked for the engine earlier the better so we will send
it at the start of November. Colin said no problem go
ahead when we asked if we could drive up in February and
fit the engine in there workshop, this then makes it
possible to drive to Richard Longman and fine tune on the
rolling road before returning home. Jim is trying to
organize a photo shoot with Mini World magazine while we
are there, Jim talked to them in June this year about
Bill Sollis doing a test in Guernsey with our car they
said they would but we could not find a legal place to do
this so dropped the idea. While we are in the U.K we may
be able to fit a photo shoot in ?
10th December
2003, KAD have got
the engine and are getting on with the rebuild, we will
get it back at the end of February and put it back in the
car straight away. They are fitting new cams and upping
the compression.
11th December
2003,Tim and Jim
wish our sponsors Maximum Security, the staff at KAD, and
all our friends a Happy Christmas and racetastic New
Year.
17th Jan
2004, Tim and Jim
have been talking to Colin and the boys at KAD and have
decided to have a new motor built with new parts, The old
engine parts sold on that means we can even changing the
head to a brand new big valve head and going up to 45
Webber's from 40's (why spend thousands doing that you
might say ) well we looked at all the latest pistons /
rods / billet crankshafts / flywheels / clutches the list
goes on,and we have come to the conclusion that we need
to be on the ball engine wise sprinting and Hill climbing
The only way to beat the short strokers is with an engine
spec the is far superior in materials strength and weight
design. KAD have started the build process and after it
is bench dyno'd we are looking forward to the delivery of
our engine in mid February. We can't say to much about
the spec till we start racing but there is a few
eye-openers going inside the engine. This attached to a
brand new Jack knight dog box , will we hope put us on
par with our rivals. If we have to change the drop gear
and final drives ect mid season to get what we need then
we will.
13th Feb
2004, KAD have
been busy boys and the engine should be together next
week or the week after, and then on the dyno properly the
last week of February. Ready to come home around the end
of Feb. Jack knight race shafts are on the way as my
trusty 1300GT ones that have worked perfectly for 17
years will not last the warm up! Thus why we have a new
dog box.
20th March
2004, KAD have got
the dog box on and are dynoing the engine today and it
should be on its way to us by Wednesday the 24th March,
Colin is going to e-mail the Dyno sheets over while we
wait for the engine so we can see what we are letting
ourselves in for! With the engine having bigger 45 Webber
carbs and ram pipes 13 mm longer we hope they fit
in?
21st March
2004, The engine
has been dyno'd and has 178 bhp at 8,000 rpm and because
the engine is 1360cc you could say we are very happy
puppies indeed. Full spec is on Technical
pages.
6th April
2004, The Sprint
was a Great day and me and Jim had a one two finish. We
had equal times with 14.30 sec only .21 of a second off
the record, also with very good times were Mark Batiste
14.54 sec and Aaron Bailey 15.15 seconds. We were happy
with the results as there was a f5 head wind and this was
interesting past the sea wall. The car was fine and we
are getting used to the dog box. Next race is Easter and
we are looking forward to beating are best times of Tim
36.80 and Jim 37.45.
12th April
2004, Easter was
great and Tim had a 37.62 run and Jim a 37.65 run.The
only prob was the car jumping out of gear in second while
de excelerating but we think we have found the problem,
just as well as it is very interesting driving around
with one hand holding the gear stick in 2nd doing 50 into
a corner.
4th May
2004, Hill went
well Tim took it easy and made sure that the car stayed
in gear on his practice run. Jim when well two only to
get a gradual drift in the s just past Terres House and
did a bit off grass tracking to end the day with a bent
steering rack and two bent swivel joints on the drivers
side.Tim had a 37.45 and Jim a 40.11 due to the rain on
his previous run. We built a temporary air box witch made
an amazing difference to the rpm so a set of K&n's
are going on for the next event, also we are fitting a
set of KAD adjustable Tie rods as these are billet ends
and should be able to cope with the worst of
situations!
21st May
2004, New steering
rack fitted, ball joints and K&n's ready for the next
hill.
22nd May
2004, KAD have
invited Me and Jim (and the car ) to Silverstone in
August for the Fastest mini in the world shootout
weekend. There are several classes and it should be fun.
We will not be able to run as such as for the following
reasons ,petrol tanks to small, wrong tyre compounds, to
stiff suspension, brakes only hill climb spec, wrong
final drive ratio, not enough radiator, the list goes on.
The car is going on Kad's display stand for the weekend,
and we look forward to the whole weekend watching the
racing. While we are there we are hoping Bill Sollis will
fit in a test drive in our car for Mini World magazine.
He is their test driver and e-mail me the other day about
getting something sorted,we tried this last year but Bill
needs to do the test on a fairly large legal area we have
no where suitable in Guernsey so now is our chance to get
a couple of pages in Mini World.
31st May
2004, The hill
climb was wet and getting wetter as the day went by. Jim
was 1st and I was 4th.
8th June
2004, The sprint
is next week but before that we are showing the car at
the Guernsey Mini owners show 2004 , there will be 2 more
racing cars there to make a good race section.
19th June
2004, Speed team
have there 1st record. After Tim broke the record with
the 1st sub 14 second run ever by a mini in practice, Jim
set a new record with a 13.81 sec run. It could not have
been a better 1-2 for us after the work put in on the
car. Jim shaved off .28 sec from Dave Boards record and I
am sure Dave will be back to sort us out. Because the
gear stick housing snapped on the 3rd run we could not
continue but we know the car can go faster.
31st Aug 2004,
Tim came second
and Jim 3rd on a slippery day for our car Tim put it in
the bank just where you stop to say hello to Lee the
comentator. The car is well on the way to being finished
and will be ready for the Saturday Hill and then on to
Alderney. I would like to say thanks to Mark Batiste and
Aaron Bailey for the help at the start of the rebuild in
the heavy work and stripping the subfame down.
17th/18th Sep
2004, Alderney
Hill and Sprint weekend was wet and damp, but there was
still fun to be had.In the sprint Mark Batiste came home
1st with a 23.37 sec and Tim 2nd with a 23.56,Jim was 4th
with a 26.11 sec run but this was in the rain so he was
not able to challenge hard, the meeting was slow and with
a few accidents there was only a practice and 2 timed
run.The Hill climb was wet and a dry run in the early
stages got Mark Batiste the record with a stunning drive
of 31.38 sec and Jim had a 33.38 sec to take 3rd,Tim had
4th with 34.29 sec run,as It pored down Jim carried on
with wet tyre evaluation work and Tim helped on the start
line.
20th Oct
2004, Tim and Jim
have stripped down the spare engine for an overhaul and
will be rebuilding it in the next few months. The new
bonnet is being made and when ready will be sprayed with
the new doors and rear arches.
2nd Jan
2005, Happy New
year to you all. Well we have not been sitting on our
bums but working overtime at work Its inexpensive and you
can afford other little luxuries if you know what I mean!
The bonnet is ready and work will start soon on spraying
. Jim and I are looking to go to France for a Hill climb
possibly as soon as May,The hill is 5 miles long so shall
no doubt need a new tank that last more than 5 minutes i
am told!
17th Feb 2005,
Speed teams engine
is good enough for KADs website,Yes KAD have used are
engine installation on there site as they said it was
good and they might use it.Also good news , Jim is going
to France on May 13th to do one of their hill
Climbs.unlike are little 900 yard blast their Hill is one
mile to the start line and Two miles long (new larger
fuel tank with baffles is under construction The bonnet
is ready and spraying soon.Next project is getting the
trailer up to scratch!.
20th March
2005, A week till
the Easter hill and things are in the final stages for
this years racing,New slicks all round new wets and rims
all round and new dash setup),Tim is re checking the
wheel alignment and will corner weight the car after the
first hill.
March 28th
2005, A good day,
the car setup was so much better than last year and the
times got better as the day moved on. The times after a
couple of runs were jointly 38.80 sec each,At the end of
the day Tim was 1st with 37.48 just outsides last years
best of 37.42 and Jim 2nd on 38.08 sec edging towards his
best last year of 37.46 sec.
April 9th 2005,
The sprint went
well , The wind was up but it was sunny, even with the
wind we managed good times with Tim recording 13.92
seconds and Jim 13.90 seconds the two of us very close in
times all day.The record will go but the conditions need
to be right.
May 2nd 2005,
The hill started
off wet as it rained in the night. The center of the hill
was damp till the mid afternoon,Tim won the class with
38.58 sec and Roger Naftel was second with 41.29 sec The
car that he shares with Glenn TanQuerel had a bit of a
roll in the afternoon in Glens hands,Glenn is o.k but the
car needs new pillars Glenn is an experienced hill
climber and in true mini racing fashion he will be at the
next hill know how Glenn feels as I rolled my mini and it
happens in a flash with no chance of catching
it.
15th May
2005, The 1st U.K
Hill climb of La Pommeraye Hill in France was good for
all of the 19 Guernsey competitors that were there.Jim
had fun with the mini and had a best time of 1 minute and
29 seconds just shy of Jon Le Cheminant in his rally car.
The brakes were our main worry and were non to good on
the early runs but less foot braking soon sorted there
problem out.
30th May
2005, At last a
dry hill climb,Tim and Jim were having a good day,Tim in
the 37 second bracket a few times with a best of 37.63
and Jim putting in a spurt on his last timed run to get
out of the 38,s to post a 37.28 and his fastest ever
run(well done Jim)Tim had a shot on his last run with the
sun going down the grip was good but a bit late in
turning in past Terres house the back came around a few
feet and scrubbed off the speed and Tim coasted the rest
of the run with a time of 38.28.A great day for us
both,Getting back to the 36 second runs with the new
suspension and engine is frustrating for us but as we
know when it does we will be in the grove once more.
11th June
2005, Jm has set a
new sprint record with a 13.50 sec run not before Tim had
set a new record of 13.55 seconds 15 minutes
earlier.Saturday turned into record day for the Team as
what looked to be a bad start turned into the best of
finnishes.Tim and Jim were on 14 sec's dead after four
runs and it was not looking good for a record standing at
13.81 but luck was about to change.with the car bogging
down on the start line Jim opted to try the right hand
side of the start line for there was no rubber on the
road there, did it work you say well straight to a 13.66,
you might say yes,Tim then did a 13.80 under the old
record then Jim did a 13.61 and Tim responded with a
13.55 second run and Jim duly replied with a 13.50 so as
to seal the teams dominants of the sprint scene in the
1400 class,the time is .61 of a second faster than a
works short stroke mini so we are well pleased and send a
big thanks to KAD for building a wonderful quick
engine.

Jim refueling on chips and cheese
before claiming the record back off Tim
29th August
2005,Tim won the Car Cub Hill
climb championship on the last of the car club Hill
climbs and Tim had a varied day with a slow time of 38.31
(not sure about the timing) and Jim 37.69(not sure about
the timing).
3rd Sept
2005,Sprint time again and once
more the car was flying, with the weather a bit to hot on
the start line record times were not on but times were
good.Tim with a 13.86 and Jim with a 13.84 thus for the
third time pushing Tim down to the bridesmaid
spot.
Tim will be the only mini in Alderney
in September so will go all out for the team and bring
back the best times possible.
10th Sept
2005, Wet in the morning but not
bad in the afternoon.Andy ward signed of his career as a
mini driver with a modest 36.51 sec run for him and Tim
had a 38.11 and Jim a 38.60 run.The right hander was damp
all day and it reflected in the times.
Alderney Hill and Sprint is next and
Tim will be the only mini racing this weekend,I will have
great hopes for the sprint with the car braking
Guernsey's Sprint no less than Five times this year.as
for the Hill , last year we were about 2 seconds down but
I will try to reduce the time buy using second gear on
the exit too the esess. The car has been rapid on new
tyres, something that last years times show as last years
tyres were 3 years old tyres. (It will be better , by how
much?) when I know, you'll Know.
16th Sept 2005,
Alderney
sprint, the weather was cool and a force 4-6 head wind was
the order of the day,Tim got his times down to 21.56 some
three tenths of a second off the record and had a backend
slide on his last run flicked left then right and slid
down the road for a hundred feet side ways leaving a
black skid mark on the road and a brown one in his
pants.
17th Sept 2005,
Alderney Hill
Climb and Tim was out to get closer to Mark Batiste's
record as last year we could only get as close as 33.42
with a problem being to low in third gear coming out of
the esses.Tim opted to go into second after the esess and
this was not much better. He then opted to drop to second
just before the esess and see how it goes.Well go is the
word straight to 31.77 then a 31.70 and 31.53,with the
record at 31.13 a good effort on the 1st corner was order
of the day as he dropped the clutch and went late into
the corner and kept on the outside of the bend almost
flat out with a slight lift. This is risky as if you drift
the field is the next stop. Not this time as it was a
perfect exit and he held it to record a time of 30.83 and
his 1st class record.
23rd Dec
2005, Tim and Jim
would like to wish all a happy Christmas and New Year. We
as always wish our sponsor Matt and Andy from Maximum
Security seasons greetings and look forward to our
partnership in 2006.

TIM AND JIM'S TROPHY
COLLECTION FOR THE 2005 SEASON
26th Jan
2006, Saturday
night was trophy night. The Guernsey kart and motor club
Dinner and Dance was a hoot,This year Tim and Jim invited
there sponsor to the presentation.Matt Birtwistle and his
wife Jo were our guests and enjoined the night and even
stayed at the hotel for the night.A very big surprise was
club member Dave Corsen's Friend who came over , ITV f1
presenter Tony Jardine. He gave a brilliant Half hour
insight into behind the scenes of f1 tv work and f1
people.Tim picked up the record trophy for the Alderney
hill and Jim picked up the Guernsey sprint record trophy.
Tony Jardine then gave out the 10 special trophies and
there was one surprise left and Tim won the moorings
hotel Alderney trophy for the most improved driver at the
Alderney Hill Climb. This was a great surprise and being
presented by Tony Jardine an unexpected plus.

3rd Feb
2006, The doors are nearly
finished and Tim will be starting the bonnet soon .The
trailer parts are hear and Jim is on the case. The new
Fire ext is hear as is the new 6 point seat belt and Jack
knight gears. The carbon fiber dash is ready for the dials
and will look good.
28th March
2006, The engine gearing is
changed and the engine is back to gather,we fitted a new
clutch while it was apart to be safe. The carbon fiber
dash is in and working, doors are finished and the new
front finished. The Sprint is on Saturday so we can see
how changing the gearing has helped the times.
2nd APRIL
2006, The sprint was very windy so
finding out how the new gearing is was not easy. The runs
were good,Tim with a best of 14.00 seconds and Jim 13.90
seconds so Tim was bridesmaid for the 14th Sprint in a
row.One day He will beat Jim. The gearing looks to be
quicker than last years so should beat our record of
13.50 seconds from last year. The Easter Hill is next so
the gearing looks very good,See you there.
Next event Easter weekend Hill
climb
14th April
2006,The bonnet is finished and
the doors two,Tim fitted them this week as well as a new
seat in blue.

17th April
2006, Easter Hill goes with a
bang! Just when Lee Corbit the commentator in the esess
thought he was safe from Tim trying to run him over,Jim
had a go too.The start of the day was good with Jim
getting a 38.23 sec run and a 38.03 run in his first two
goes and Tim with a 40.03 on his first run after hitting
the ignition switch off when going for second gear and
then he did a 37.25 ,100th of a second off his best from
last year and was well pleased with that, it goes without
saying that the new gearing works really well. Jim was
ready to respond and on his third run clipped the bank
opposite Terres house and rolled the car sideways and
across the road heavenly on landing.you can see the crash
on the www.guernseymotorsport.com website under the
gallery/motor sport/crashes section.
29th April
2006, The car has had a new roof
,new rear sub frame ,two new shock absorbers ,new bonnet
repaired doors, new tie rods, new front tyres ,new
battery box, respray ,and new front windscreen and
repairs to the rear spoiler, new front ball joints front
left and new rad and new front grill ,5 new compomotive
split rim sections and new rear hub. The car is now ready
for the hill climb on bank holiday Monday the 1st may
2006.
1st May
2006, Hill when's well,Tim had 1st
with a 38.91 sec run and Jim second with a 39.60 run .the
car neads some suspension changes before Jim goes to
France in 2 weeks time.We are putting new hilo's on the
rear and some new large radius ram pipes. Then corner
weighting the car as we know it is far out since we had
not had time since the crash to do it.
Pommeraye France
2006, Jim's been in France at
Pommeraye a 2.5 km Hill climb, he managed to beat his
time from last year by 4.5 seconds well done to
Jim.
30th May
2006, The Hill climb was dry for a
change and made for a good day for Tim and an average day
for Jim. Tim Started the day with a personal best of
36.80 second run and Jim started on a Red flag, not being
able to run again for an agonizing 3 hours till after
lunch he then had a 39.80 with Tims next run a 37.39 with
a missed gear change.Jim followed with a 38.73 being his
best for the day and Tim followed with a 36.98 and a new
personal best of 36.63 on his last run. Tim had a good
day but Jim was not having the day he was expecting ,He
was not really on the pace all day where he would
normally be a few tenths either side of Tims time!
2006 Guernsey mini
owners show, The speedteamracing
mini was at this years mini owners show and picked up the
award for best race Mini in the show,This is the second
time we have won this award and Tim was on hand to pick
the award up from Gesy Buckingham.

29th June
2006, Saturday is the Sprint and
Tim and Jim are looking forward to this day, The weather
is forecast to be Sunny and 26 degrees with little or no
wind . This is a great opportunity to see how the gearing
is as the first Sprint had a force 3-4 headwind at the
time.
1st July
2006, the weather for the sprint
was very hot and conditions looked good. Tim Dropped two
stone in weight in his challenge of trying to beet Jim
and spice up the rivalry alas to no avail as Jim beet Tim
by 2 hundredths of a second, so it was business as
usually and Tim came second for the 15th straight sprint.
Jim had 13.70 and Tim 13.72. Tim will be at the next
sprint with Jim to see if he can beet him butt when you
drive the sane car you cannot change anything on the car
as this helps the other person driving so its looking
like Tim will have to slim down to something like a
skellington before this helps drop his time,See you at
the sprint in September!
28th August
2006, The Hill started wet but
dried quickly to give good grip all day.Jim was
determined to put the crash from earlier this year behind
him and he did it in style, a 38.01 second run was his
best only 8 tenths of a second behind the best time of
the day from Tim. Tim managed a 37.18 to take the class
and win the championship for the car club 2006. Hot on
his heels was Andy Robilliard with a 37.53 a personal
best for him.
2nd September 2006,
The sprint was wet and damp all
day and not the best.Jim put in a 17.60 sec run at the
start and Tim a 18.50 sec run, Neil Bourgaize a 16.60.Jim
then did a 16.80 and Tim a 16.19 both Tim and Jim had
aquaplaning at the end of the sea wall at this time and
decided to put the car on the trailer. Neil Bourgaize had
a 17.98 run.The conditions got better worse and then
better,Neil next times were 16.50,
16.60,16.42,16.29,16.96 and 16.60. Tim was amazed that
his run in the rain and wet conditions survived Neil's 6
remaining runs in the drying conditions and gave Tim his
1st win at a sprint against Jim for 7 years.Jim won the
championship and Tim was second and Neil 3rd.
9th September
2006, The last Hill of the year
saw Jim going to a wedding and Tim being speedteams main
man for the day.Tim checked out the gear changing in
practice and it was fine,Tim did a 38.61 and Andy a 38.04
and Neil a 49.07 second run,With practice out the way it
was time for the 1st official run and Tim did a 37.06 and
Andy a 37.57 with Neil a 38.56 second run,Andy improved
on his personal best with a 37.28 but was unable to beat
Tims 37.06 and thus Tim won the championship with Andy
runer up and Neil a great 3rd place.
12 th September
2006, Tim and Jim have the car
packed for the boat to Alderney, They are both looking
forward to the Hill and Sprint their and so are Andy and
Neil, this year the entire Mini class will be there to
entertain the crowd.
14th September
2006, Alderney weekend started
this year with the now expected fog delays.Arriving a few
hours late we checked into the digs and checked to see if
we could help set up the sprint, but Steave and peter had
it sorted ,top guys.Out in the evening for a quick meal
and off to bed.
15th September
2006, Alderney sprint today so up
for breckkie at 7 and down to tow the cars to the Sprint
at Fort Corblets .Tim,Jim,Andy and neil were in the class
for the day,Neil was sidelined early with a damper failer
and out for the weekend. There were two practices with the
best of the two being
Tim of 21.61
Jim 21.53
Andy 22.06
The best times in the timed runs were
as follows,
Tim 21.15
(new
record)
Jim 21.45 (personal best)
Andy 22.06 (personal best)
16th September
2006,Alderney hill climb.The
weather is overcast and cloudy but not raining. In
practice
Neil was sidelined by his damper
problem again Andy ran with good results Jim with a p.b
and Tim 0.22 of a second off the record
Jim had 31.64
Tim a 32.23
Andy a 33.15
The gearing on the car this year is
not as well suited to the hill as last year so we have to
change the driving style once more. 1st and 2nd runs
were
Jim a 31.48
Tim a 31.44
Andy a 32.84
The best times were as follows
Tim 31.05 1st
Jim 31.27 2nd
Andy 32.50 3rd
The battle with Jim was great and Tim
had to pull out the stops on his last run to fend off Jim
as he had the best times most of the day.Tim hoped his
runs from last year when Jim was not here would be an
advantage but Tim was very wronge as Jim was the pace
setter from early on, With Tim only claiming victory on
the last of his runs.Andy rob had a great time racing and
had personal bests on most runs.
24th Sept
2006,Speedtem are glad to of had a great year for results
and they are as follows
Winner of the Kart hill champoinship
Tim 36.63
Winner of the Kart sprint championship
Jim (new record
13.70)
Winner of the Car hill championship
Tim 37.18
Winner of the Alderney hill
championship Tim 31.05
Winner of the Alderney Sprint

24th Sept
2006,The car is back on the stands
for the winter and the brakes are coming off with new 4
pot vented discs going on to address the brake fade
problem in France and a general going over service for
next year will be done. on all components.
Our very own local
racing star and Fellow Guernseyman Andy Priaulx is World
Touring Car Champion 2006

Andy our European 2004
and double 2005, 2006 World Touring Car Champion
Here he is lifting our
Guernsey flag with the Team UK boys

Macau in mainland
China is mastered by The BMW Team UK driver Andy
Priaulx
Andy clinched the 2006 FIA World
Touring Car Championship title in a tight, nail bighting
finale to the series round the tortuous street circuit of
Macau in mainland China. The BMW Team UK driver won race
one and came fifth in race two to emerge ahead of the
other eight title aspirants, beating fellow BMW 320si
driver, Joerg Muller, by just one point. It was only as
he crossed the finish line for the second race that he
knew the title was his, making it a historical three in a
row for the Guernsey driver who won the European title in
2004 and the World title in 2005.
A jubilant and very emotional Andy
said after the race: "A race is never easy, but the first
one went according to plan. I was on pole, got a good
start and led from start to finish. However, race two was
a different kettle of fish. Although I had gone from one
point behind series leader, Augusto Farfus, to five in
front the pressure was there and, of course, I was
starting from eighth on the grid with a 45 kilo load of
ballast. I reckon this was one of my best and at the same
time hardest races ever. We had some carnage on the first
lap and a long safety car period. I was being pushed from
behind by one driver and had a slower one in front. On
top of this the only other person still in the title
hunt, Joerg Muller, was getting away in
front."
Andys explanation of what this
win means to him was: This one is special as every
year you win a championship it means a lot more than the
one before. Winning consecutive titles is very, very hard
and the pressure on this one was massive. In 2004 I went
to Dubai trailing by 12 points, so I was sort of
discounted from being a serious challenger. Last year it
was just three of us in with a chance, I was leading the
series and the title was sown up after race one. Lot of
factors have come into play this season and I cant
forget that in the race meeting before this in Valencia I
came from almost last to score a single point how
important that proved to be today. It has been a long
season as we started racing in March, but even before
that were testing in January. I dont think I need
tell anyone what I am going to do tonight and for the
next few days!"
To make it the perfect occasion for
BMW Motorsport, for whom Andy is a works driver, the
marque also retained its manufacturers' world title with
the BMW 320si WTCC which was brand new for this season.
BMW Motorsport Director, Mario Theissen, was at the track
and commented afterwards: "In this business you are never
safe even if you go into the final rounds leading the
battle. Anything can and does happen in Macau, but we had
the right drivers here in our cars. Qualifying on Friday
was very important as this laid the foundation for the
race wins for both Andy in race one and Joerg in race
two. Obviously we are very happy to have won both
championship titles."

The Cars ready at the
Sprint and the sun is out,The 2007 season is
go!
7th April
2007, Season,s
first sprint and for a change the wind is f5 straight
down the track with constant sun and no clouds. To most
people a sunny windy day but to us race types it is
called ideal conditions for sprinting. This was to be a
great start to the season for the team with Jim away for
the sprint and hill it was for Tim to take over Jims
brilliant sprint winning ways and He didn,t disapoint. The
cars winter overhaul was worth it with the smooth running
of the car and the weather gave great consistency over
the quarter mile.We are know running in the special
saloon car class and the results were as follows

2007, Easter Hill
Climb and nice sunny weather all day until the last runs
was the order of the day.Tim and Andy Robilliard were the
mini representatives for the day and got on with shaking
off the winter blues and remembering what the hill was
like again.Andy Robilliard was putting in constant runs
all be not as quick as he would of liked and Tim made a
big push to get his times down and was not disappointed
when he posted a time of 36.51 a personal best
time.

2007, May bank
holiday hill climb and after 4 weeks of non stop sun if
it is going to rain then on a hill climb it will. This was
the case and it windy and misty with the ocastional
drying time and then the rain would return.Jims return to
compatition was wet as was everybodys day.Jim got down to
a 48.46 sec run Andy robilliad a 39.26 and Tim a 38.81
second run.Jims time was slower due to Tim and Andy
getting a slightly dryer run and the heavens opening
straight afterwards.Tim and Jim withdrew the car from the
rest of the meeting as there was a steering arm problem
and it would of been a risky move to carry on without
changing it.
25th May
2007, As there was
a sticking/jaming steering department on the car at the
last hill we have replaced the steering rack and track
rod ends to be safe but with the hill very likly to be
wet were not going to test it in anger.

I have recived an
e-mail from one of Jims mates showing Jim with his 1st
car and his parking could be better!
May 28th 2007,
The hill started
wet and a dry run was there in the end if you stayed on
line but the road was damp,Tim managed a 36.40 second run
to lower his record down from 36.63 to his delight this
was also Tim's personal best time .Jim on only his 3
dryish run's of the year , and damp at that had a 38.01
run and 38.83 on his final run up the hill with a very
jumpy back end and to say the least Jim has not had a dry
run this year unlike me and Andy Robiliard and he has to
be chuffed with the times as he came second to Andy who
did a 37.40 erlier this year and finished the day on a
38.83 himself , This hill was great for speedteams
ongoing quest for the 2007 Championships.

A great sight at the Hill was the
return of Tim's late brother Paul Le Pelley's Dutton he
built in 1989,being now raced by Jerseyman Dave Moyse it
looked very nice being refurbished after a time out of
the limelight. Tims Dad popped down for a look and Tim
and Dave rembered the old times and the excitement of
building her . It brought smiles to our faces I will
remember it for it was the 1st record I ever broke
driving it at the Guernsey sprint a month after Pauls
Death I did it so I could claim the only record he did
not have in the channel islands.I took the record on the
last run of the day at 132 mph in 12.81 seconds and still
makes me shiver thinking about it , when I did it I
wanted to prove the car could do it as the two times
Pauls tried it was wet or windy he was nearly always away
racing on sprint days.
The 2007 Guernsey Mini
Owners Club show
was a great Day and there were many classes and many
displays on the day. The weather was perfect and visitors
many.
The show as ever was a
combination of a years work for Paul and Gesy Buckingham
and Eric Trump of the G.M.O.C, Well done to them for a
well organized day,
There were 4 cars in
the race car class with Tim, Andy Robilliard race cars,
Eric Trumps Autotest car And Graham Jehans Beach car. Tim
Picked up Two , Best Race Car and best engine in show for
speedteamracing,Andy Robilliard Picked up second in
class.
Here is a few pics of
the day.

Speedteams Entry

Tim and The Kad 16v Mini
30th June 2007,
The Sprint was wet
and windy and Tim, John Robert and Ian smith got soaked
through setting up the speaker system for Fanta. The
racing was fun and unpredictable and the Sprint for Hope
run by Local world Touring car champion Andy Priaulx a
nice distraction from the miserable weather. Andy Had a
run in a 16 seater bus for Charity and did it in 23.26
seconds and returned on the back of a black pickup and
popped a bottle of shampers over the nice pretty girl
from Island Coach ways for a bit of fun, bellow he is
talking to the people brave enough to come out in the
rain.

Andy Priaulx World touring car
champion and fellow Guernseyman back where it all
started.
As for the class there
was only Tim and Jim with Jim on a 15.30 run and Tim on a
14.61 sec run.
August 27th
2007, The Hill started a bit
slippery in the morning but got better as the day wore
on. Tim did a slow 38.80 in practice as the new slicks
did not like the rubbery start line. Next run was for Tim
at 2 o,clock as a red flag put pay to the 1st attempt.
starting on the left for this run and good start and a a
few underwater moment and an amazing 36.20 second run and
personal best for .Tim by 2 tenths.Next run again out of
class as another red flag run, this time its a perfect
start and driving to avoid underwater and a bit wide at
the finish and .Tim did a 35.69 second run resulting in 3
things,no1 a personal best by some 8 tenths of a second,
no2 second fastest mini time ever and a new class record
lowering Paul James from Jerseys 20 year old record set
in a miguire space frame mini. Tim was over the moon and
said there is nothing more satisfying then driving home
from the event with the job done.
1st Sept
2007, The day was warm with the
sun out when it felt like it. the record was not on due
to lack of tail wind but with Jim back some real
compitition was on, but with Jims hand still not healed
it was a few tenths lost makeing it difficalt to change
gear quick ect that put pay to an all out challange on
this outing. His times were o.k for a one hand bandit!

Next
race is the Last Kart Club Hill
climb Jim is not racing to rest his hand for Alderney
hill and sprint on the 14th and 15th of Sept and then to
France for what sounds like a great hill
there.
8th Sept
2007, The weather was good and Tim
managed to lower His record for the special saloons upto
1400 cc from 36.40 to 36.06 seconds and Andy Robilliad
did a personal best of 37.21 seconds. There were a few
crashes and Tim blew a hardy spicer drive joint on the
last run going into the top corner. This has been
replaced and the car is ready to go to Alderney and tim
is glad to see Jim back after his layoff due to a brocken
small finger. Hopfully his hand will stand the riggers of
racing time will tell but there should not be to much of
a problem.
14th Sept
2007, Alderney Sprint was sunny
and fast with tim taking the record from 21.15 to 20.79
seconds Jim back from his layoff recording a very good
sub record run of 21.13 seconds In all the records fell
in 20 of the 22 classes and they were smashed 42 times
that day ,I belive this to be a record in its self and no
crashes.
15th Sept
2007, Alderney Hill climb was
sunny and 3 minor offs being the only crashes of the
day. There were 11 class records and one of them whent to
Tim lowering the record he had of 30.83 down to 30.02
seconds Jim run in a very crediable 31.14 for the day
with his hand still heaverly bandaged he did well. as it
was his 1st Hill since May.
Next race petit bot and Tim will take
the Mini in to have a shot at Mark Battistes record but
good weather will be a must on this tricky nearly alway
wet coarse. Jim will be sharing a road car with his mate
freddie Mansell again inthe production class.
When we know,you'll know !
20th Oct
2007, Petit Bot and fine weather
lead to great racing. some were out for fun and for
others the last trophies were up for grabs. Tim lowered
Mark Batistes record by .66 of a second and the car
returned to the garage intact . Jim raced a mazda with
Freddie Mansell Not often you see Hill and Mansell on the
same car window at a local event!
Well done to fellow
islander Andy Priaulx on his hatrick of Titles in world
touring cars, He has successfuly won Three straight FIA
world titles in a row in the WTCC.

Andy Priaulx and boss
of Bmw motorsport Dr Mario Thiessen
With the Season over and the Annual
Dinner &Dances to come for the two clubs a total
trophy tally of 5 being by the way of 3 Championship wins
and two outright wins and six records for Tim. This makes
2007 Speadteamracings best ever year .
19th April 2008
Sprint , The weather was overcast
bit of rain but mainly dry, Tim managed a win with a
14.14 second run , no records for most people as the wind
was from the south.
5th May 2008

a change and Tim was 1st with a 40.33 sec run and 2nd was

good to say there was a head wind he had a fastest time
of 13.88 seconds .4 away from the record. Kieth Mourant
finnished with a great 15.05 sec run.
9th August Kart club
Hill climb , Weather was rain
followed by clear high cloud,Tim started with a 37.80 sec
run getting down to a new record of 35.72 seconds on only
the 6th dry run in the four hills this year due to bad
weather. Kieth Mourant did a fine 40.65 sec run and Neil
Bourgaize a very creditable 38.03 second run his 4th run
of the day.
Next racing is
Jim in a classic racing weekend
for pre 1976 cars in Jersey being a Sprint on Friday and
a Hill on Saturday and Sunday then Jim will bring the car
back on the boat late Sunday night for Tim to Use at the
last Car club championship Hill of the year on Bank
