Malcolm Vivyan

Malcolm Vivyan began his interest in music by having piano and theory lessons with Guernsey teacher, Millicent Foss. After completing his Cert. Ed. at Bognor Regis College of Education in 1965 he began teaching and was in charge of music at two primary schools in West Sussex. Meanwhile he continued his own piano and theory studies with Eric F. Hewitt, in Horsham and joined the local representative committee for Trinity College of Music at Worthing Centre where he later became chairman.

When the opportunity arose he was fortunate to return to Bognor as a part-time, in-service student and was awarded his B.Ed(Hons) in 1976.

In 1977 he moved back to Guernsey, taking charge of music at Les Beaucamps secondary school. He later also became conductor of the Guernsey Choral and Orchestral Society before he was given a year's secondment to do his MA at the University of Reading in 1982 . He started the Trinity Examinations Centre in Guernsey and is now the Trinity Guildhall representative for the Channel Islands. He contributed to Aural Awareness and Extemporization book 1 (Initial – Grade 2) by David Wright and  collaborated with Jeremy Ward in writing the current Trinity College Sound at Sight: Electronic Keyboard Initial - Grade 5 sight reading book. This website also aims to provide practice pieces to sight read in preparation for early grade exams.

Malcolm currently teaches piano, keyboard and theory, and he is also a Clinical Hypnotherapist.
