Nature Conservation Section.

Aims

This section aims to learn more about habitats through visits and follow-up work. We also take an interest in nature conservation issues and have been actively involved in trying to protect sensitive environments under threat and in promoting environmentally friendly activities.

Activities

We meet on the third Monday of every month (other than December) indoors from September to March and outdoors from April to August. Some section members are also volunteers helping with nature-reserve management. Guernsey Conservation Volunteers. The secretary of the section is Chairman of La Société's Reserves and Land Maintenance Committees, a member of the Scientific Committee and represents the Section at Council Meetings of La Société.

Future meetings

Past activities

Recently we have looked at shingle banks, woodlands, wet meadows, and in 2003 we concentrated on coastal habitats visiting beaches, cliffs, sand-dunes, shingle-banks and salt marshes. Section members have also been involved in survey work notably for the survey of quarries published in La Société Guernesiase Transactions for 1991.
