Situated at the Western end of the English Channel, some 80 miles south of England and only 16 miles from France, Sark is one of a cluster of small islands known as the Channel Islands.

Although just three and a half miles long, Sark is the home to almost 600 residents.

The island is an independent, self-governed, crown dependency. Our language is English but names of people and places reflect a strong French influence.

Sark is proud to be 'different'... here we have no cars, motorbikes, trucks or aircraft. We use bicycles or walk, goods deliveries are by tractor and there are plenty of horse drawn carriages to take visitors on tours. Residents use the carriages as a taxi service.

Sark is a ruggedly beautiful island, standing almost 300ft above sea level and with dramatic cliffs all the way round the island. Visitors should not miss the opportunity to view the island from sea level with George Guille's island tour, a three hour excursion right round the island.

Another great experience is to have a dinner at one of our excellent hotels and then relax with a moonlight carriage ride back to your home or accommodation. The steady pace and clip-clop of a horse, the gentle movement of a carriage and views over the hedges to the lights of Guernsey and France make for an enjoyable end to an evening out.

Sark is a thriving community with churches, school, businesses and various groups to meet the needs of permanent residents as well as catering for visitors, many of whom choose to return year after year.
