Alderney, less than 8 miles
from mainland France, is the second largest island of the Bailiwick of
Guernsey. It is 3.5 miles long and 1.5 miles wide at it's broadest extent.
It is a place where there is always time for everything, a
quiet tranquil island where everyone feels they can unwind and do things at
a slower pace.
The island is for nature lovers, for families who want to
get away from it all and spend time together exploring. A good network of
roads means that it is easy to get around and the airport is only 15 minutes
walking distance from the quaint little town St. Anne.
Pathways
across the common and cliff walks enable you to explore and enjoy the
wildlife, the whole island is easily explored on foot.
Many of the concrete defences built during the German
Occupation of Alderney still remain and are dotted along the coastline.
The island is surrounded by white, sandy bays and bathing is
safe at all times.
Alderney
has the only working railway in the Channel islands which runs from Braye
harbour to the north east coast. Former London Underground carriages are
pulled by a diesel engine during the Summer months only.
Aurigny airways travel several times daily to the island
from Guernsey, a short and enjoyable flight, very popular with day trippers.
