I agree - if you only buy one book about TS, maybe it should be this one. It's factual, accurate (I trust the author!!) and up-to-date. Has lots of info about recent studies too. Please don't be put off by Amazon's statement that they "expect to be able to find this title within 4-6 weeks". I ordered it on 12.8.00, and they posted it the next day! (I received it on the 15th)

Kitty Killian from Holland writes: The Explosive
Child by Ross W. Greene is a great book. It gives a totally refreshing look on how to
handle inflexible (rigid, tantrum-throwing or just never-co-operative) children, like many
TS-children are. Greene makes you aware of how to read the signs of a child getting into
such distress, that communicating by words is not possible anymore - and teaches the
parents to get ahead of the point where the child explodes. (Sorry but my English is not
too neat here). His approach is simple: have all these explosions where you forced the
child to comply with your wishes helped him, and improved his behaviour? If not, try this
approach, and decide before every new conflict heats up, if you find the subject so
important that you are willing to risk the child exploding, or if you find it a matter for
compromise (thereby teaching the child that such a thing is possible and how to do it) or
whether you might just as well let the child have his way. It certainly works with us, it
has cleared up our minds over how to handle in many an awkward situation.

by Carol Stock-Kranowitz is a valuable book. Many kids with TS must also have SID, is my
opinion after reading up on it: Amazing that here in Holland nobody ever once
mentioned SID to me. Apparently my sons hyper- and hyposensitiveness to touch, for
instance, trigger or coincide with many of his tics.
