Thank you for your interest in learning to fence. Sarnia Sword Club run two Beginners’ Courses each season for anyone aged 14 or over, starting in September and January. (For those under 14, see “Musketeers” section of the website).
The courses last 10 weeks, and are held on Thursday evenings at 8p.m. in the Sir John Loveridge Hall at Beau Sejour. The current cost is £55 for those aged 18 and over and £45 for those aged 14 to 17 (this includes all coaching and equipment hire). Discounted prices are offered to groups of 2 or more people who join the course together.
The first evening we get you “kitted out” with the equipment and protective clothing which will be allocated to you for the duration of the course. (We suggest you bring a distinctive pillow-case so all the equipment allocated to you is kept together from week to week). All you need to provide is a pair of denim jeans or similar stout trousers, (track-suit or jogging trousers or “combat-style” trousers with leg pockets and loops are NOT suitable), a round-necked T-shirt and a pair of trainers.
The lessons last about an hour, but you will be very welcome to stay on afterwards and watch “the Club in action”, or after a few weeks you may want to book an individual lesson with one of the coaches (for which there is no extra charge).
At the end of the course you will be invited to become a full member of the Sarnia Sword Club on payment of a further amount to bring your subscription up to the relevant subscription rate (currently £100 for the full season for adult fencers, and approximately pro rata for part season) and it will entitle you to join in all Club activities for the rest of the season (leagues, Club competitions etc) for the majority of which there is no extra charge.
If you would like any further information about the next course, please either send an e-mail (via the Contact link) or ‘phone Sue on 256475. |
