Q. Do I need a passport to come to Guernsey?
UK residents do not require a passport to visit Guernsey.
If you are travelling from the continent direct to Guernsey you will need a passport. If you travel to Guernsey from the continent via United Kingdom you will also need your passport.


Q. What is the local currency?
The Guernsey currency is British pounds sterling, local notes and coinage are interchangeable with UK tender. (we still have £1 notes!)

Q. Can I change traveller's cheques / foreign currency?
Yes. There are many Banks and Bureau de Change able to help.

Q. What is the level of health care?
Guernsey has excellent health care facilities - and there is a reciprocal agreement with the UK for their citizens - which is currently under review. See Latest Information. Otherwise health care is privately funded - and you are strongly advised to take out adequate insurance cover for your stay.

Q. Can I bring my Dog / other animals?
Animals can travel freely between Guernsey and the United Kingdom,but travelling from the continent they will be subject to quarantine regulations.

Q. Do I need any vaccinations / medical precautions?
No. Guernsey can be treated as if it were the mainland UK in this respect.

Q. Do I have to have accommodation booked before arriving?
In the height of Summer it is recommended as accommodation may be in short supply, but there is no requirement that you pre-book, and our information Centre in St Peter Port will be pleased to assist you with finding suitable accommodation.

Q. How do I travel to Sark or Herm?
Herm can only be reached by boat, there are two companies; Travel Trident Tel 721379, and Herm Seaways Express Tel 724161, journey time 20 mins approx.

Q. How do I travel to Lihou Island?
Lihou Island can be reached only by a causeway when the tide is low enough, times can be obtained from the Information Centre Tel 723552

Q. How do I travel to Alderney?
Alderney can only be reached from Guernsey by Air - a 15 minute flight with Aurigny Air Services popular Trislander aircraft, an experience not to be missed. For more details contact Aurigny on 01481 723474. Also see the Alderney web site, or email them directly.





The National Health Service does not operate in Guernsey.

Most doctors and dentists  are in private practice and patients are required to pay for treatment.  You will be asked to pay for any treatment by a GP.  This can be at a surgery, at a temporary residence or in the Accident and Emergency Department at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital, as these services are provided by GP's in private practice.   However, the Reciprocal Health Agreement only provides for immediately necessary treatment ie. urgently needed treatment for conditions which may arise during your stay.

The acute hospital in Guernsey is the Princess Elizabeth Hospital (PEH) which is operated by the Board of Health.

Hospital accommodation and medical services are provided free of charge to visitors from the UK under the Reciprocal Health Agreement.

There is a charge for the ambulance service.

Medical Insurance is recommended.
