A little bit about Allsorts! (and Me)
How many of you associate Allsorts with those chewy sweets…sometimes coconut, but almost always liquorice, that you probably still purchase nowadays? I always did, as they were a great favourite of my dear departed mum, so I thought I would name my shop in her memory. Hence Allsorts evolved in early 2000, in what was a vacant property, at 32 Mill Street. Starting this new venture was a way to get myself back into the real world, back working again, and it also gave me somewhere to call home. I initially started up Allsorts as a second-hand shop selling a variety of books, videos, music CDs etc, which were someone else’s unwanted items, obtained from the local charity shops. These were items that I could sell on to others. At one stage I actually had part of the shop selling food & drink, which I used to buy when the good old Buy One, Get One Free offers were available. After being given an old computer by a friend, and actually learning how to use it, it became a great asset to me. I was now able to find, by using the Internet, lots of things that people were looking for. At that time it was something I knew nothing about, but it became such a great way of life for me as I received so much satisfaction and pleasure in helping others to get what they wanted, and without them spending all their hard earned cash. I managed to get three old computers to install in the shop. Customers could then search for things themselves. This became very popular. So popular in fact, that in January 2005, when returning from the UK after a serious head injury, I decided to install more computers in the shop and turn it into the Internet Café which it is currently. The only drawback from doing this however, apart from the huge bank loan, is the fact that I now have literally 1000s of items, which all have to be put up for sale somewhere other than in my Internet Café. So if you have managed to stay awake thus far, why not take a little while longer to view some of these items, which I am now listing on my first ever website. My website is open for business at http://www.allsorts-onlineshop.co.uk
